Our Executive Team

Ting Xu

Founder and Chairman of the Board

Ting believes in evolution. Since founding Evergreen in her garage in 1993, she has evolved with the company from a scrappy entrepreneur to a seasoned global leader of the premier provider of gift, garden, and home décor products. As Evergreen has grown, Ting has stayed dedicated to examining what possibilities the future holds, never being satisfied with the status quo. In this spirit, she has overseen impressive growth through sales channel diversification, vertical integration, global expansion, and a number of strategic acquisitions, including Cape Craftsmen, New Creative Enterprises, Team Sports America, and Plow & Hearth, among others. Ting credits the strong management team and dedicated personnel for the company’s successes. Her passion and entrepreneur spirit inspire her continued involvement in start-up projects and venture capital in both the United States and China.

In her free time, Ting enjoys reading, traveling, and trend shopping. She is inspired by art and fashion, serving on the Board of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and engaging in a number of other philanthropic efforts.

Frank Qiu

Chief Executive Officer

Frank believes that both life and business are a journey. As CEO, Frank guides the company’s day-to-day operations and manages over 1,000 domestic and international employees. A Prudential Insurance salesman in a former life, Frank had the vision to build one of the largest in-house sales forces in the gift, garden, and home industry which now serves over 15,000 accounts – from mom-and-pop shops to major national retailers. Evergreen has prospered under Frank's leadership since 1995, and consequently, he has earned various community awards including: Ernest and Young Entrepreneur of the Year (2000) and Fudan University Alumni of the Year (2009).

Frank has worked to facilitate business partnerships between the United States and China, while inspiring future generations to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams. In his spare time, Frank enjoys gardening, reading, and chess.

John Toler


Being relevant in a single distribution channel is not the way to be a global industry leader. As President, John has used this sentiment to continually work with our multi-channel partners to stay innovative and nimble in the ever-evolving retail landscape. You could say the home and gift industry is in John’s blood. He began his career with his family’s business in the industry and has never slowed down. He is passionate about developing and empowering customer service, fulfillment and distribution operations, and under his leadership, the sales team has tripled its revenue and doubled in size.

People look up to John — and not just because he is 6’5”. He is recognized as a skillful and fair leader. He’s also known for his extensive sports knowledge and his love for exploring the outdoors with his family. John has a Bachelor of Science from St. Norbert College and an MBA from St. Louis University.

If John wasn’t at Evergreen, he would be running sustainable oyster farms on the Chesapeake.

Leslie Newton

Chief Financial Officer

Leslie believes that calculated decision-making and being agile are critical to being an industry leader. She has spent the better part of her career helping grow and expand some of the areas’ larger retail and wholesale businesses from Heilig-Meyers to Southern States. Her endeavors in making a company a more productive functioning entity do not stop at just the finance side of things. She is just as comfortable talking about numbers as she is in leading human resource initiatives to strengthen the company internally.

Originally from Atlanta, she fell in love with Richmond after earning her degree from University of Richmond where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Richmond has managed to keep her thanks to its reputation for being a foodie city, and she has been enjoying everything that has to offer with her family in the Fan area of Richmond.

If Leslie wasn’t at Evergreen, she would be running a dude ranch in Wyoming.

Brittany Toler

Senior Vice President of Product Development and Marketing

Knowing the next big trend is something Brittany lives and breathes every day. She constantly has her ear to the ground working with the entire product development and creative teams to ensure a cohesive strategy from inception all the way to the marketing positioning. She oversees all of the sourcing and design that the company uses for our expansive brand teams. Outside of the office, she gets away from the computers and enjoys kayaking and hiking with her husband and two boys. Given her ability to capture so much information into a presentation, it may come as no surprise Brittany received her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington before getting her MBA from the University of Cincinnati, College of Business.

If Brittany wasn’t at Evergreen, she would be accepting her third Emmy this fall.

David Earle

Vice President of Finance

David understands the need to balance the practical with the shoot-for-the-stars side of things when it comes to managing the financial operations within a company born on the entrepreneur spirit. Under David’s leadership, the company has expanded and strengthened its credit facilities. He has played an integral role in four key acquisitions where he put a lot of research into ensuring the moves were not only feasible but ones that would strategically leverage the company in its goals for growth. His thoroughness kept those processes seamless in incorporations and the integration for accounting. Prior to joining Evergreen, David worked for Mid-Atlantic Pension Group and WestRock formally known as MeadWestvaco.

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting as well as his MBA from the University of Richmond, and is a CPA. He still holds a love for his Richmond Spiders, where he attends their basketball games with his family every year.

If David wasn’t at Evergreen, he would be working the comedian circuit.

Elden Liu

Vice President of Technology

Elden has always believed in the mantra – “if you can envision it, we can build it.” It is with that vision for tech innovation that he has led the Information Systems team in building and developing several key internal systems that are the lifeline to Evergreen and our sister company Plow and Hearth’s Product Development and eCommerce success. Prior to joining the Evergreen family, Elden led teams for IBM Canada and owned his own technology firm, where he developed a light-directed picking system dubbed Pick-to-Light that is still being used today in our Madison distribution center.

One of our resident night owls, we can always count on him to be up at all hours of the night troubleshooting for a new site launch or answering questions with our China office. Elden attended the University of Toronto where he received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Elden travels between our Madison and Richmond offices throughout the week, but on the weekends he calls Charlottesville his home, enjoying downtime with his family.

If Elden wasn’t at Evergreen, he would be pursuing his passion for ham radio and geocaching.

Frank Wood

Vice President of Operations and Facilities

Constant improvement in warehouse and distribution challenges is something that Frank is relentlessly focused on at both Evergreen and our sister company Plow and Hearth. He is responsible for the strategy and direction for improvement in labor costs, productivity and the way we service our diverse customer base. Prior to joining the Evergreen family he spent over 25 years in the OEM and Aftermarket division of the automotive industry. Frank holds a degree in Business Administration from York University in Toronto, Canada and over his career has strived to continue improving through formal training by the American Society of Quality in Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and is Six Sigma Green Belt on improvement methodology. He is an active member of APICS and is certified in five modules of Supply Chain Management CPIM program.

An avid outdoorsman, if Frank wasn’t at Evergreen, he would be on the PGA tour with his family.

Chris Wornom

Director of Business Development & Acquisitions

Chris believes in the paradox that you must plan to be opportunistic. Leading Business Development & Acquisitions, Chris has instituted an annual long-term strategic planning process, implemented an acquisition strategy to supplement Evergreen's organic growth, and led the successful acquisition and integration of six new businesses. Chris jokes he is a reformed investment banker. Although he still enjoys the intensity of deal negotiation and execution, watching his projects generate long-term value creation for the Company is the ultimate satisfaction.

In his free time, Chris enjoys spending time on the water and on the slopes. If he wasn’t working for Evergreen, he’d be a charter captain or ski instructor.

James Xu

Member of the Board

In order for a company to grow to a global scale, you must have visionaries to carve out the path to future success. James has played an instrumental role in pioneering Evergreen in its early years through his leadership in information systems infrastructure and technology and the structuring of the manufacturing facilities. He brought numerous special projects to fruition that lead to industry growth. Prior to joining Evergreen, James was a Senior Network Specialist at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia. His designs for the computer and logistics infrastructure are the backbone of the company’s proprietary ERP system still today.

James earned a Bachelor of Science from Shanghai University and his Master in Computer Science from Old Dominion University. Having moved on to lead new ventures, today he serves in an advisory role. He resides in Richmond with his family where he enjoys hunting and photography.

If James wasn’t at Evergreen, he would be traveling the world looking for the next wave.
